2014 GFOA AB Conference Update

Final touches are almost complete for this year's conference at the Sheraton Red Deer Hotel.

The 2014 GFOA Alberta Conference in Red Deer will feature, for the first time, enhanced high speed wireless access for all your devices. Delegates and Exhibitors will have access to a 50Mbps connection from wireless access points throughout the conference area.

This year there is an "alternative to golf" for those looking for something a little different on Sunday May 25th in a Sylvan Lake Cruise.

GFOA Budget Analyst Academy

Don't miss this opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of budget model and process options, key concepts and components that will support you to develop and tailor a high-quality budget for your government.

GFOA Alberta has just completed the development of its 3-day Budget Analyst Academy designed to provide finance professionals with an in-depth understanding of budgeting and how it fits with, and supports, achievement of broader organizational goals and priorities. The course presents a comprehensive and practical budget development model and provides a variety of supporting templates and a 145 page Course Manual covering all areas of budgeting from preparation to development to budget monitoring & evaluation. Specific topic areas explored during the course include: use of departmental business plans, public participation, financial policy, long-term debt, asset management & capital planning, multi-year budgeting, budget document format & content and budget presentation.

The course instructors are both Chartered Accountants with over forty-five (45) years of combined experience in local government finance and have taught a wide variety of financial courses. Expect both instructors to supplement course material with real-life experience; illustrative examples; practical tips and advice.

Costs will be $1,200 for Members and $1,500 for non-Members.
